Feel Good Friday: Just A Girl And Her Journal
Hello and happpppy Friday to you!How did your week go?Before you jet off into the weekend, I wanted to share a #FeelGoodFriday post that may inspire you to make a new (and affordable) purchase... something you may even have just laying around.
Recently, I decided to return to something I had done so regularly as a child and teenager. It was a practice that taught me so much about myself and a hobby that has since turned into a career.Though at the end of the day, my hands are tired and I feel as though I might not have much more to say, those dimly lit hours might, in fact, may be a more precious time where I really have needed to do this one thing the most. What am I ready to get back into?Journaling. For years, I collected and scribbled in the pages of journals (diaries, even), and for those years, lined pages held my fears, feelings of love, dreams, and emotions.Sure, I talked about first crushes and school drama, but deep in these pages I also discovered more about my personality and who I was at my core.Often I’d purchase a new bound book with just the mere thought of opening it up and writing away. Sometimes I had no intention or could only give as much as a line or two, but always… always, I was able to close the book and feel a little bit better about my day and my flowing thoughts.Have you ever journaled before?I feel like it tends to be a practice connected with our more youthful years, but something about it makes me feel strongly that it was made just as much for our adult life. This may be where we need it the most, wouldn’t you say?Sometimes it’s easier to feel or to go through whatever you are going through when the words are written down on paper. I, for one, find it extremely therapeutic.I write for a living so sometimes putting pen to paper feels like more work than fun, but I’ve decided to make journaling a priority moving forward. And, an easy way to get into the habit is to have it right by your bedside, ready to go with a pen or pencil. So, where do you start? What do you write about when you're not a writer? For starters, journaling has no rules. No one's grading this work or even reading it other than you. Journaling is simply a tool for you to have when you need to "go on vacation for a bit in the comfort of your own home."Start here:
- Date your pages, because it's important to track feelings, changes, and growth.
- Play some music. If it's hard for you to write in silence, play some music or have the TV softly playing.
- Talk gratitude. This is easiest to do at the start or end to the day. List out what you're grateful for and what makes your life so fulfilling.
- Write about your day, an interaction, or an upcoming event. This is great if you're more of a planner.
- Write down your goals. They say when you write something down you're more apt to follow through with it, so if that's true... scribbling your future goals down isn't such a bad idea. ;)
- Try free verse. Just write anything and see where it takes you. It's that easy. You don't need a plan. Just talk about what's on your mind, what's making you tick, and what you need to work through that day.
- Write as often as you want. That could mean daily, every other day, or once a week. Whenever you have something to get off your chest, write.
